Make

Ingredients

  • browntop millet semolina (rava) — 50 g
  • wheat semolina — 50 g
  • carrot — 10 g (blanched and dried)
  • beans — 10 g (blanched and dried)
  • chilli — 8 g (dried)
  • oil — 10 g
  • peas — 5 g (blanched and dried)
  • salt — 2 g
  • curry leaves — 5 g (dried)
  • onion — 10 g (dried; from the thesis's formulation table (the annexure list leaves it out))
  • water — 400 ml (for each 100 g of mix)

Method

  1. To make the mix, roast the browntop rava and wheat rava in the oil and let them cool.
  2. Stir in the dried vegetables (onion, carrot, chilli, curry leaves, beans and peas) and the salt. Store in an airtight pack.
  3. To cook, bring 400 ml water to a boil for every 100 g of mix.
  4. Stir in the mix and let it boil for 10 minutes, stirring, until the rava is cooked and the upma thickens. Serve hot.

Water and timing

Water: 400 ml for every 100 g of mix, as the thesis gives (1 part mix to 4 parts water).
